Lebanon, VA — On February 8, 2017, Robert Allen Tackett, a 48 year-old man from St. Paul, Virginia, after a jury trial in the Russell County Circuit Court, was convicted of Assault and Battery of a Law Enforcement Officer, Obstruction of Justice, Indecent Exposure, and Drunk in Public. The Jury recommended a total sentence of Four (4) years, and Three (3) months to serve in prison.
Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Mindy Mullins presented evidence at the trial that Russell County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to a residence on a report of Tackett exposing himself in public. Once deputies arrived, they found Tackett outside the residence exposing himself and arrested him for Indecent Exposure and Drunk in Public. The evidence further showed that while transporting Tackett to the jail, he struck one of the deputies with his own head.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Brian Patton stated, “we are pleased with the jury’s verdict and recommended sentence.” Patton further stated, “I hope that this conviction will remind persons who are being lawfully arrested to be cooperative and compliant with law enforcement officer’s requests. Police officers are putting their lives in danger every day to help keep our community safe and they deserve our respect.”
